Your Year – Your Self : A morning of Yoga to help set intentions
with Rona Main & Lis Barron, Daviot, near Inverurie
Lis & I hosted a very popular New Year slot of Yoga which was set around Patanjali’s 5 Yamas. Part of the ancient Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, these 5 simple philosophical nuggets of wisdom which guide us on how to treat ourselves and others, proved to be an excellent compass for everyone to set their new year intentions by. Framed positively, we encouraged a slow-burn of personal enquiry and intention setting along with a Yoga practice, meditation and relaxation good habits. Lis was great at reminding us that our fellow mammals use their energy wisely at this time of year in preparation for Spring. We humans launch into January exercise which is great, but this can be even better if it’s sustainable and becomes good habit forming. The theme of positive intention setting is not just exclusively for New Year but can be part of a healthy regular year round Yoga practice. To help with this, there will be a follow-up day to revisit our intentions framed around Patanjali’s 5 Yamas on Sun 22 April at Daviot, near Inverurie. Hope to see some of you back for this session or new participants who fancy finding out more.
Tayside Yoga Association Autumn Seminar with Rona Main, Dundee
Theme: Creating Space- Less Clutter
This session touched on the human instinctive need for space with less clutter in our lives. Through Asana & Pranayama, we worked physically on releasing tension and creating space in the body & mind. We also discussed Pantajali’s Sutra, the 5th Yama – Aparigraha, roughly translated to mean non-hoarding; examining the relevance of this today and modern day Minimalism. How best to adopt Patanjali’s advice both on & off the Yoga mat was explored in a fun and informal way, drawing on the vast experience in the room!
Thank you Tayside Yoga for a really interesting morning of Yoga along with reflective and practical discussion. It was great to see so many of your members and meet new Yoga friends.

Yoga & The Menopause with Sandra Cook & Rona Main + lunch from Bonobo Cafe, Aberdeen
An inspiring day with a group of women experiencing how various Yoga practices can help address the Menopause or the Menstrual Cycle generally. With gentle reflective information sharing & openness, we explored the importance, including the ups & downs of this often liberating transition in women’s lives. The workshop included yoga, restorative and cooling techniques and a relaxation. But the highlight had to be the delicious Ayurvedic vegan lunch from our collaboration with Bonobo Cafe, Aberdeen! Great feedback and a subject Sandra and I are happy to return to again next year.

Dropping Awareness into the Hips with Rona Main
A national gathering and weekend of Yoga with over 300 delegates and around 30 teachers. Billed along with many other workshops, this session was an early morning gentle asana practice to draw our attention deep into the pelvis & hips. The body’s relationship with gravity was a running theme and we engaged the energy-body through moderate practice of mula bandha & pranayama.

Creating Space On & Off the Yoga Mat with Rona Main
Following my exploration into Minimalism, I was struck by how similar modern day advocates of this subject, including Marie Kondo and The Minimalist, were providing similar wisdom to Patanjali in the 5th Yama of the Yoga Sutras, established almost 2000 years ago. We explored the concept of non-hoarding or non-grasping in a Yoga practice, meditation and relaxation. The event included an informal chat about how to embrace these simple principles on & off the Yoga mat in our homes.
