I was recently asked to write a piece for Aberdeen City & Shire’s Raring-2-Go Magazine on Yoga for Tweenagers . What on earth are they!? Well it’s a new buzzword for youngsters aged 10 -1 4. Keen to keep our Tweenagers healthy & happy this Summer, here’s the advice I gave along with this fun Yoga Challenge suitable for the whole family to take part in.
Yoga is an ancient practice for strengthening body & mind and it’s practiced all over the world by millions, all ages & abilities. So the chances are, today’s Tweenagers have tried Yoga at school or nursery at least once. Getting into shapes, known as physical asanas is energising, creative and fun, and meditation or mindfulness techniques can quieten the mind. Look out for Family Yoga events in your area or search for Children’s or Teen classes at www.grampianyoga.org.uk or through local forums. Ask your Active Schools Co-ordinator about Yoga in Schools too.
Best of all, try it yourself on a clear floor, grass outdoors or a sandy beach. Here’s a few ways Tweens can enjoy Yoga this Summer (Click the image to view the full size version). Warm up, take care & enjoy!
