Inverurie & Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire
I host regular Yoga classes for Adults & Children in Inverurie & Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire. Adult classes are held in a choice of 3 beautiful venues and Children’s classes in local schools. I also run regular Yoga Workshops & Courses in Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire, often in collaboration with other Yoga teachers and organisations.
My style of Yoga can be best described as Hatha Yoga – finding balance, drawn from a mix of traditional and modern influences. Students will learn and experience a variety of postures and flowing sequences, modified to suit individual needs and adapted for those wanting a challenge. I encourage Students to build strength & flexibility at their own pace and to work closely with the breath.
Classes are balanced with restorative relaxation and light-touch meditative techniques. Themes vary each week, however I aim to put gratitude, openness and collaboration at the heart of every class. Identifying what can disturb our inner peace, and helping Students find contentment or Santosha through Yoga, is a recurring theme.
My approach is simple:-
- Yoga is for Everyone and Everyone benefits.
- Classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, including beginners
- Progression is encouraged for experienced Students
Qualifications & Experience
I’ve been practicing Yoga for almost 20 years and teaching for 10 years. I trained as a Yoga Teacher during time spent in London, qualifying with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Teaching Diploma in 2007. I teach adult classes in the Inverurie area of Aberdeenshire and run occasional workshops in collaboration with other teachers. I’m a Coach with Aberdeenshire’s Active Schools, teaching Yoga as a curricular or after-school activity in Inverurie & Meldrum Secondary & Primary Schools. I’m also a Tutor with Yoga Scotland, co-tutoring on their Aberdeen Yoga Foundation Training Course, and a Teaching Assistant with Sandra Cook on her BWY Yoga Teaching Diploma, assisting to train new Yoga Teachers in Aberdeen.

Benefits of Yoga
Yoga brings many benefits, however the best summary I tell beginners is a regular practice of Yoga:-
- builds strength and flexibility in the body and mind
- quietens a busy mind and helps us find clarity of thought
- can settle or ground us emotionally and physically
- is non-competitive but a good counter-balance for those with competitive lives
- works at a deep physical level, benefiting the body’s main systems and organs
- benefits us mentally in unique ways, but overall helps us ‘let-go’.
Minimalism & Yoga
In recent years I’ve followed a personal exploration into a more minimal and uncluttered lifestyle, known as modern day Minimalism. Although work-in-progress, this journey has helped inform many of my class themes, and a subject I’ve written about. I hope this helps Students take these simple principles off the Yoga mat and into their daily lives.
I’ve introduced gentle music and playlists to classes which are updated each term. Music varies from modern alternative to contemporary instrumental based tracks. The volume is typically reduced or turned off during the relaxation practices, and generally feedback on music has been positive with Students saying it helps them focus. I hope you enjoy the selected playlists.
